Knoxville, Tenn. (WVLT)-- Normally, barber shops and hair salons are closed on Sunday, but one local establishment opened its doors to anyone wishing to improve their appearance The Knoxville Institute of Hair and Design cut and styled the hair of the homeless men and women in the city Sunday. The service was free to the customers. Organizers said they will help anyone get back on their feet, even if it means starting with a makeover. This was their way of paying it forward. "We hopefully will give all the people who need this encouragement and need some help, whether to get a job or to even just feel good about themselves, to be able to have a special day for them," said Gabriela Gagnier, School Manager. The barber school has plans to make the styling a regular event, which would take place on the first Sunday of each month.
